Male Breast Reduction - Is Surgery Right For You?

When should you have a male breast reduction? When you have over-developed male breasts to a point that it affects the appearance of your chest. There are several methods you can use to reduce chest fat but we will talk about liposuction and if it's right for you.

You should always consider any type of surgery as a last resort, including liposuction. At the end of this article you will find a list of other resources you should try before liposuction for gynecomastia.

What is liposuction? It's a method to permanently remove the excess fat tissue in certain localized areas of your body and is many times used to correct gynecomastia.

Who is eligible for liposuction to correct gynecomastia?

- Any male that has excessive fat tissue in and around their male breasts

- You must be generally healthy

- You must not be generally overweight

If you are a candidate for liposuction for gynecomastia, your surgeon will advise general or local anaesthesia and sometimes you will be able to chose which one you prefer.

Your surgeon will also have a brief meeting with you before the surgery to answer your questions if you have any.

After the brief meeting, your surgeon will draw reference lines on the excess fat tissue areas. These lines will help the surgeon guide the cannula while performing the liposuction. Then you will be anesthetized and taken to the operating room.

Before beginning the liposuction process, the affected areas will be covered with iodine which is used to thoroughly clean and prepare the skin. You will also receive local injections containing anaesthetic and then several small incisions will be made.

To prevent bruising, a special substance is injected through the incisions into the affected areas. The next step is to wait until these areas are completely numbed.

The liposuction process begins when the cannula is inserted through the insicions and starts removing the excess fat through suction.

The surgeon will work his way to all fat deposits. When he finishes, you will be given a choise to stay overnight which is what the surgeon will recommend but you can always chose to go home after the anaesthetic effects end.

You will experience swelling for a couple of weeks after the surgery but you should be fully recovered in less than two months.

After about 6 weeks from the surgery, you must go back to see the surgeon who will revise your recovery.

Some side effects that should not last very long are numbness and tingling of skin in the affected areas. You will have to rest for about 20 days after which you can go to work and resume regular daily life activities. If you wish to exercise, you will have to wait for about 45 days.

As mentioned before, any type of surgery should be your last resort. There are several other effective methods you can try for a male breast reduction and in most cases will correct your gynecomastia within a month. Some of these programs are The Chest Coach System, Get This Off My Chest and Man Boob Nuker. Depending on the program, the success rate is between 85 and 94%.
